About the Project
How do you package and brand a legendary roadside stand? CO and writer Palmer Pettersen spent some quality time with the Edmunds family, owners of Barnacle Bill’s Seafood Market and makers of the best smoked salmon in the Northwest. Inspired by the writings of Ken Kesey, who lived down the road, and roadside documentary photos by Robert Frank, we set forth in the most immediate manner to capture the rugged preparation and secret smoking techniques of fresh fish caught on the Oregon coast. The result vaults the viewer into the experience of being in an establishment that hasn’t changed since 1949.
